A baby oil that is mineral oil. Warm it a bit and apply to the scalp. Leave on a little while and comb the hair with a fine toothed comb. The scales should come off the scalp. You might have to do it twice.
Don't use Vaseline. It will NEVER come out and your baby will be angry!

How can you take care of your child?
Anti-dandruff shampoo
Buy an anti-dandruff shampoo (non-prescription) at the drugstore. Wash your baby's hair with it once a day. While the hair is lathered, massage your baby's scalp with a soft brush or rough washcloth. Don't worry about hurting the soft spot. Once the cradle cap has cleared up, use a regular shampoo twice a week.
Softening thick crusts
If your child's scalp is very crusty, put some baby oil or olive oil on the scalp 1 hour before washing to soften the crust. Wash all the oil off, however, or it may worsen the cradle cap.
Resistant cases of cradle cap
If the rash is very red and irritated, apply 1% hydrocortisone cream (non-prescription) 3 times a day for 7 days.

Rub the olive oil into the baby's scalp then after a few minutes gently scrape at the cradle cap with a comb - this worked really well for my 2 kids.

I used to put baby oil on the scalp before bed and gently rubbed head in the morning before washing the hair with dentinox (cradle cap shampoo). If the cradle cap is bad it will take time to clear so keep up the same routine for a while.

My son had cradle cap really bad and the baby oil works really good. After you give the baby a bath massage the baby oil all over the head. It should keep in the moisture and start to flake use a soft brush or comb and brush away the dead skin. Hope it helps.

when my baby had it i washed his head every day. i would do his bath like normal then wet his hair down. i would put baby oil on it and use a baby brush to brush through it. then washed his head with regular baby shampoo. i brushed the shampoo through as well then rinsed. when it was really bad i would do this twice a day. it's not going to come off all at once and you shouldn't pick at it because you could pick into the good skin too and make a scab. it doesn't bother the baby to have it, it's just not perfect so do the treatment once or twice a day and if you go somewhere, put a hat on the baby until it clears us if you are worried about "what people will think." just to clarify, i do not think anything bad about people whose babies get cradle cap when i see them in public because i understand it's just something that happens but some people are a-holes and don't understand anything. good luck!

Hey Annie,
When my daughter had cradle cap, I was told that the best thing to use was Olive Oil.
Put it over the area, and leave over night (pop an old towel over the bed).
In the morning, comb through gentley and the wash and rinse thouroughly. You may need to do this a couple of times.
Hope you find a solution that you feel works.
Lou.

Olive oil rubbed gently into the affected area, or paupau cream, don't know if you can get it here, mine was sent from Australia. Olive oil worked best, but to be honest, I didn't try that hard to comb it out, as it is the skins way of protecting the babies scalp, I just rubbed a little oil on and left it, occasionally using a very soft baby brush to get rid of the worst of the scurf. dosn;t look great, but it will go and baby is none the wiser for it.

When my little boy had cradle cap I used to massage baby oil into his scalp at night before he went to bed and then comb it out in the morning before I bathed him. That did the trick for him.
