Live near la mirada(california), want to get away for this weekend for myself and my son(13) Willing to travel by car or train. Want to leave Friday and come home Monday. No disneyland-been there done that. Any ideas would be great! Thank You

Go to the mountains! Your son will love it.
Angles Crest is good. Big Bear is good. So is Arrowhead.
You could go to the desert, that can be awesome for a kid, and an adult. Big space with nothing in it but cactus and rocks. At night the stars will blow you away.
If you have some time to drive, go to Sequoia National Park! A must see for Californians - you live there, see it.
Olvera Street near the Train station in LA is cool. It is like a clean Tijuana.
Beaches, Sunset Strip Art stores, Farmers Market, 6 Flags, Santa Barbara, one of the missions of California .

Since I don't know what your interests are, I can only make a few sugestions. Travel by car or train just for a weekend means you do not want to go far away.I would suggest that you look into points of interest for both you and your son near to home. Talk to a local travel agency for suggestions. try looking on the internet and I wish you good luck for a relaxing getaway
