Go to my computer and right click on it. Choose the "Hardware" tab. Choose "Device Manager" Under DVD/CDROM drives make sure you see your device there and that it's working and not marked with a red "X" or a yellow "!" It it's then you may need to install software that contains the ASPI driver which is usually installed as part of a player package. Contact tha manufacturer and see what they require for the ASPI drivers. Each play has its own driver specs and are not all the same. These drivers can also cause other problems so check before installing. Your best bet would be using the provided software if there was any. If not Nero or NTI both have a faily good product with a wide range of DVD support. Hope this helps!

Well hopefully you have a DVD player on your computer and am not trying play on a CD drive.

If you have a dvd player and it does not start automatically goto Start/My computer and click on the drive the dvd is in. Usually D or E drive. It should show the title or something to ID the dvd.
Click on this drive and it should start up.

Is your drive a DVD player? Not all of the drives in computers are. Look at the front of the drive, on the door that opens where you put in the DVD and make sure it as the DVD emblem on it. If not, the drive is only a CD player and will not play DVDs.

Hey,
It seems as if I'm a bit late in this part though the answer may worth checking.
Well, since the integration of Media player there were quite controversial deficiencies and codec malfunctions which caused huge amount of inconveniences and incompatibilities.
therefore for playing your favorite DVD first you have to download some codecs, which will only take seconds to download and install, thereafter.
here are link to download the possible codecs:

Is your drive DVD-ROM capable? Be sure that your drives can read/play DVD formats.... If this isn't the problem, most likely you don't have the codecs to play DVD's... Usually when you install a third party program like PowerDVD, it installs DVD codecs on your system...
