Workgroup by default but you always change that. Also you can add networking combilties when you install windows on a pc add remove porgrams

Peer to Peer.... in a workgroup....

Meaning that each computer is independant.... If a user from computer B wants to access the documents on Computer A, he/she needs to have a user account and permission to Computer A.

Inintially, it will try the credentials the user on computer B is logged in as and then will prompt for a username and password.
