No. This is a deceptive statistic. It all depends on where you are doing the picking.
If you were in the middle of Africa, you could pick 100 people (unless you were right next to a Chinese tour bus), and none of them would have Chinese ancestry. Same thing in most parts of Harlem, or Sweden. There are scores of regions in the world where there are no traces of Chinese culture.
However, because there are like 100 Septillion Chinese people ON THE PLANET, statistically it can be said that "1 in 3" have some Chinese origin. Its just another way to lie with statistics.
