.. in a straight race over a track that suits all of them, and not a trick question like the cheetah attacks the greyhound, or the man rides the horse, etc..

Both the greyhound and the cheetah are built for sprinting, and have plenty of fast twitch, glycogen rich muscle fibres, but are short on endurance for long-haul marathon running.

Over a 25 mile marathon-style race, I would put my money on the horse. In Llanwrtyd Wells, Wales they have run a race with man vs horses for the last 27 years or so. Humans in relay teams and on mountain bikes have beaten the horses a few times, and on rare occasion a human runner has won, but keep in mind that the horses are carrying riders. An unencumbered horse would probably win against even a skilled marathoner every time.

It would be interesting to see who would win in a week-long grueling multi-marathon though. I'd put my money on the human then.

A racehorse most likely because certain breeds of horses, such as Arabian are very good for long distance treks. The reason a cheetah wouldn't win is because they can only reach speeds up to 70 mph for a few seconds; nothing even close to a minute. And a greyhound isn't built for endurance either. And finally, a human wouldn't be fast enough to catch a horse.

The horse with the human second, the greyhound third and the cheetah last. The fast sprint animals do not have a lot of endurance - they can only go a few hundred yards then they overheat. Horses can go long distances at a fair speed. Humans though can eventially out walk or jog about anything. Some hunter societies still walk\jog their prey to exhaustion - sometimes over a couple days.

The racehorse, provided that it does not run at maximum speed all along. If it tries to run at top speed, it will get tired, and the human has a good chance to win. The same applies to the greyhound.
The cheetah runs very fast, but has no stamina and cannot keep it up for one mile, let alone a complete marathon.

hear yee here yee, a cheetah has rubbish stamina, couldn't make it, a racehorse would stop and refuse to continue, a marathon runner isn't as fast, but has the logic to develop a running plan, i.e. jog now sprint later for energy conservation. who'd win? maybe if a greyhound bus was in the race...
no, id have to say, if they all just flat out ran, the horse would win

I'd bet on the horse. If you make it 40 miles, I'd bet on the man, because the horse would want to stop for a couple of hours to eat.

My first guess would be the racehorse, but in this case, its probably the marathon runner.
