I realize that nobody enjoys being reduced to a stereotype, but I have had serious relationships with both men and women. Why is it assumed by so many people that because someone is bi-sexual they must love having orgies and they lead promiscuous lives? Does anyone feel different about this?

Well first bisexuals seem to have more opportunity to have sex with more people after all they can do it with both men and women. I know this sounds simple but that is how a lot of people see it. Secondly Many of the bisexuals that i know are very promiscuous it seems like they cannot make up their minds about who they want to be with. In truth i think it is just one of those things where a few people do something and they are very open about it and that makes everyone stereotype that they are all like that. After all a bisexual that is promiscuous is going to be noticed more than one who dates steadily. So those bisexual will unfortunately, due to their visibility be more noticed and represent what bisexuality is to others.

Well at FIRST you think "Wow these people go to bed with anyone." but then after you take a moment to really consider it - if you have any intelligence you realize....(like in my case I am gay) - Hey wait a minute Just because I am gay doesn't mean I want to sleep with every guy in the world....so then I assume the same for bi-sexual people - they find some men attractive - they find some women attractive. It takes a preson actually thinking things through and being reasonable not to assume the worst about others.

That is just a bisexual myth. I get sick of having to explain the Myths & Realities About Bisexuality to almost everyone, lesbian/gay and straight (even other "bisexuals"), but someone has to educate them. If nobody ever told them the truth then how are they to know? I'm tell them yet again.

Myth: Bisexual people have multiple partners and/or can’t have monogamous relationships.

Reality: Although some stereotypes assert that bisexual people can’t commit to relationships with one person because they’re always attracted to people of the other gender, bisexual people are no more or less likely to have multiple sexual partners than gay, lesbian and straight people.

Monosexuals are forever discriminating against us because they think we are greedy or that we are confused and or promiscuous. I would not wish being bisexual on anyone. Having desires for both sexes is not a blessing it is a curse. I am married and I have to close off half my desires or be unfaithful. It used to be a constant struggle but after I accepted being g0y I was able to put it into perspective and have been happy with the world ever since.

Maybe because thye play both sides of the fence and double their chances, other people are just jealous so they run their mouth. I am not bi but I beleive people should live how ever they want. The biggest thing I think is people are stupis and most want to remain that way by learning, with out leatrning they fear or look down at what they don't know. If someone knows their own mind and knows what they want and it don't hurt anyone let them live their lives.

Maybe it's because bisexuals have twice as many people to have sex with and the prudes are just jealous. ;-)

And you know what they say, being bisexual doubles your chances of getting a date for Saturday night. Seriously though, the bi people I know are no more likely to go to an orgy than anyone else.

And you're right, it is a stupid stereotype that's perpetuated by Christian-dominated sexual prudishness. Be happy, healthy, and wise in your relationships, and pursue your own happiness that way. Love is love, no matter who it's between, and the world needs as much love as it can get.

I think it's that gender means much more to all-gay or all-straight people than it does to us, and they can't get that gender is a preference like any other. Like, they can love Southern and Irish accents but be faithful to a Southerner. I love Russian and Southern accents and am faithful to a Russian, and they understand that choice, but they can't understand that I love women and men and can be faithful to a woman. I guess an answer from an all-gay or all-straight person may mean more, but that's the impression I get.

Because it is considered "greedy" to want to have your cake and eat it too. And because many bisexuals engage in bisexual and heterosexual relationships at the same time. that is promiscuity.

But its also a stereotype because not everyone does it.

Basically they assume that since you will have sex will either gender they assume that means you will have with anybody - aka everybody!. It's silly honestly. It's not like you are having one night stands all over the place, you are in relationships...and like to switch it up. And if anyone calls you greedy just say "I'm not greedy - I'm talented!"

I hear you, its really ashame that most misunderstand what being bisexual means. Being straight means you fall in love with the opposite sex, being gay/lesbian means you fall in love with the same sex, and being bisexual just means your not predisposed, that your heart is open to falling in love with either sex. Sexual orientation is very misleading in that its not just physical but emotional also.
