Yes and no. I believe you can airmail one but there is a lot you have to go through and they also have to be shipped in a special container which, as far as I know, will run you anywhere from $40-100.
It also depends on what type of rodent you are shipping. Unless it is a rare one it might just be better to send him the money. Almost everything smaller than a rat isn't likely to ship well (I only know of one mouse breeder who is willing to ship). Hamsters might be an exception because of their sleeping and sometimes laziness, but I'm not sure.
All I can say for sure is that unless it's a hard to get species or a uncommon variation of an animal he's really into the hobby with, it's probably not worth it. I breed mice and would love some new stock from a couple other breeders, but I can't risk the shipping and the cost is so high.
Good luck though! And happy birthday to him :D

You may be able to fly an animal from one city to another to be picked up at the airport by someone, but there are a lot of restrictions on that, and my understanding is that it is expensive. Why not have your brother or sister pick up one at a pet store or local animal shelter for your nephew and send them the money to do so, it would be a lot simpler.

No you can't mail a live rodent. At the post office they will ask you what is in the box. UPS and FedEx will not take live animals.

Ummm... depends on what u mean by mail?
There is a way to ship them yes... but I am unsure how... Local pet stores would be able to tell you because they have their animals shipped in.. they don't go get the animals themselves
But I wouldn't recommend it though... Imean, how would you feel if the animal died because of mishandeling, lack of food/water, and such?
