i had my 35 wk check-up yesterday and she checked my cervix. i didn't think anything of it until afterwards i started spotting and getting cramping in my right lower abdomen.
of course i started getting a little anxious b/c i've had this really great pregnancy without any thing happening, not even a little scramping or spotting.
anyway, i looked it up in my books and talked to dr office today and everything is most likely fine.
i think that doctor should have kept her hands to herself yesterday!
so, i'm curious...
how far along were you when your OB starting checking your cervix??
i was only 35 wks...i think that is just too early and i won't let them check again until 38 wks....
just looking for a consensus! thanks everyone!

Oh yes, i know that the spotting was from the exam....
i just don't like that it happened and i think she should have kept her hands to herself!
i know of OB offices to NOT check until 38 wks just so they don't disrupt the situation....
that's why i'm wondering about YOUR experiences.
thanks.

It's YOUR cervix. If you don't want any more cervical checks, just say so! There is very little useful information to be gained from a cervical check anyway. You can be closed up tight as a drum and have a baby later that day. Or you can walk around for a week or more dilated to 3-4 cm and 100% effaced! It means NOTHING. If you don't want cervical checks, don't consent to them!
Many midwives will not do cervical checks until you are in labor and some don't even do cervical checks DURING labor! Instead, they rely on watching how mom is acting and sounding during labor to know how she is progressing and they trust her to listen to her body.

Since I had a previous loss, the doctor had me get vaginal u/s started at 16 weeks every 2 weeks until 30 weeks. Went to the hospital and got an exam to see if I was dilated since I was 100% effaced. I got one again at 32 weeks and will get one every week now until I deliver.
Sounds like your cervix got a little irritated. My OB's would start checking at 36 weeks if I didn't need the weekly checks. You had to have taken your clothes from waist down off, you could have told them you didn't want a cervical check. She didn't do anything out of the ordinary to you.
Your baby will be fine anyway even if not at 37 weeks yet. I am looking at delivering at probably 34-35 weeks or no later than 37 weeks most likely.

I think it's a good thing your doc started checking you at 35 weeks. I started effacing and dialating a month before I had my daughter and she was my first!! They usually start checking you in your 36th week anyways because that is the start of your 9th month. You could have your baby in 2 weeks for all you know. I've been saying this to a lot of people doctors really give themselves about 4 weeks of play. You can deliver anytime from 2 weeks before your due date to 2 weeks after your due date. I would be thankful you have such an involved doc and back off a little. and as far as you not letting her check you until your 38th week, thats a chance you'll just have to take. I am eager to know if I am dialating and effacing so that way I know if my little one is getting close. As far as the spotting just means that your cervix is getting ripe meaning preparing to start effacing if you haven't already. So I would continue letting her check. Unfortunatly that is the sucky part of being pregnant, you have to have uncomfortable exams up until he/she is born but your doc had your intrest in hand.

The bleed could have also been from her touching your cervix, when you are pregnant you have 60% more blood volume to place like your nose, and gum, as well your cervix is engorged in blood. I learnt that because I bled after sex because I have a dropped cervix. But I have known them to check the cervix as early as 30 weeks

about 30 weeks because i've had two pre mature children. It can cause spotting. the doc SHOULD have checked she was right to check you can dialited and not know it and it lets them know how ready your cervix is. Even a midwife would check by now 38 weeks is called full term thatsa only 3 weeks away.

Mine started checking last week-38 weeks. Some people have been checked earlier, though.
The spotting is normal-it's from the exam.
Your doctor may have thought you might be dilating/effacing.

i became 29 weeks... (indications of premature demanding artwork)i felt a lot of stress, what i assumed were undesirable hicks contracts notwithstanding the genuine element and had pink discharge.. i became dialated to 2.. maximum medical doctors will commence checking round week 37 and keep checking per week till that's time.. except you've early indications of premature demanding artwork then the clinical professional may examine before

39 weeks with my first son, not at all with my second (he was 2 weeks early and I was only 38 weeks pregnant when he was delivered by emergency c-section)
