Historically we have backed many dictators who proved to be bad people, for example: The US government gave license to Ford motor company to manufacture tanks for the nazis, also trading with the third reich were dupont, chase national bank, GM, standard oil and many more. In the middle east we supported people like the Shah of Iran, who's rise to power with the help of the CIA was facilitated by the murder of anyone who opposed him. King Fahd of Saudi Arabia, where torture including amputation is common and women are still stoned in public for adultry. In other parts of the world we supported people like Idi Amin, Manuel Noriega, Ferdinand Marcos, The infamous "Papa Doc" & "Baby Doc", Samuel Doe, P.W.Botha, Chiang Kai-Shek, even Saddam Hussien the list can go alot farther than this forum will allow. The question remains: If we have and continue to support ruthless murderous dictators, how much responsibility do we carry for the worlds state of affairs?

Keep in mind that many of these people came to power by way of a bloody CIA sponsored coup, so it goes beyond mere support.

It is the refusal to acknowledge our own culpability in the situation which makes us vulnerable. Whether we see things that way or not, we have to accept that everyone else does. We cannot expect that people who have had rutheless dictators imposed upon them by the US are going to forget that just because we do.
