How do you tell it's ingrown? Because, they hurt terribly. My son gets them from time to time. It usually happens because the nail was trimmed close to the quick, leaving the nail not much space to grow back into. While it's growing back, it goes close to the skin and tries to go through.
If it's red, swollen, or producing puss, then you have an infection and need an antibiotic from your dr. Once you get on the antibiotic, then the pain isn't as bad.
This is what my son's dr. told use to do:
1) use hydrogeon peroxide on the area
2) soad the foot in warm water with epson salt. The epson salt will help draw out the infection.
3) after the foot is out of the water and dried gently pull the skin back from the nail a little. Do this each time after you soak the foot. It helps move the skin out of the way of the nail and keeps it from cutting into your skin.

Mmm..dosnt grow at all....that sounds unlikely..but hey..its your toes...ingrowing toemails are usually the product of incorrectly cutting your nails...have a hot bath and try and pull back the skin at the corner of your toe that hurts..you skin will be softer and you can see better...see if you can get into it with proper nail scissors..if it starts to hurt even more you may need to visit a chiropodist..do it sooner than later because proper ingrowing toenails hurt like hell!!

It looks pretty much like a normal toe, but the pain is sharp and intense. The nail still grows when it's ingrown, but you may have a slight swollen, reddish area next to your toenail I had to have mine fixed with surgery, and it was worth it!

I think you would be more likely to feel it first.
Look closely at the side of the nail look to see if it is growing into the flesh.Painful but sounds worse than it is Seek medical opinion. Don't leave it too long.

mine does too. you have to not cut it along the side
or else it'll keep digging into your skin.
i have the same problem. i recently looked it up and
found that you just have to try and grow it out
or get surgery.
but you can try growing it out by everytime it starts to
hurt, lift up the nail w/ tweesers and stick part of a cotton ball
under it to keep it from poking your skin.
haven't gotten that far along myself but i'm waiting
so i can try it as well.
sounds like it should work!

Apart from hurting like hell that don't look any different unless they turn septic. They then are very inflamed, and large. At this stage go to your doctor or A & E.
I have suffered for years but now go regularly to our local NHS podietry clinic - who are excellent - no more pain!
