I really don't understand, and that's why I'm upset. The person who says it the most that really bothers me is my younger sister (she's 11 years old). I know I shouldn't take it to heart since she's my sister and is almost meant to say mean things, but it really hurts. Then everyone else tries telling me that I'm some kind of genius when I'm obviously not. I'm average, I'm not retarded, and I’m not a genius. I guess I just want a little respect. It even feels disrespectful when people say I'm so smart because it's lying. How can I convince my younger sister to stop using that word to describe me? I'm afraid she won’t take me seriously. There are other people who like to call me retarded, but my sister saying it hurts a lot more.

Start developing an aggressive attitude when people offend you and they will stop calling you these things. Once they know how you would react to things like this, they'll pretty much leave you alone.
If they still insist on insulting you, give a warning that physical action will take place. If they still do not comply, show your aggression with a well deserved punch or slap in the face.

ask her nicely, and if she does it then tell her she is a plonker because she obviosly doesnt know what a retard is and if she doesnt stop you are going to tell all her little friends that she still wees the bed, make her life as dificult as what she is making yours!
and when someone says something to u and u think it is offensive or an insult, tell them it hurts and will it kill them 2 show some respect? (maybe u can tell them 2 about your sisters little "mistake") kidz should hardly ever be seen and NEVER be heard. keep your head up

Insults should roll off of you like water off a duck's back. If she calls you retarded, look at her, shrug, and walk away. If she keeps it up, you can always use the, "that's it? Not smart enough to come up with anything else, eh?" line.
As for people calling you genius, be gracious, smile and say thank you. It is a compliment and should be taken as one.

Do yo actually believe what everybody says. then you are in problems because few do actually understand other people and when someone does not appreciate your methods of solving problems he/She believes you are not good enough because you may actually solve the problem at hand with a more thourough method.
look at the way you phrased your question. It shows that you solve your problems by seeking out which your sister may not be able to appreciate.
learn to stand by your methods and tell her to back off!!!!!

Ignore it. It will go away, eventually.
It is no different for you than any one else.
Of course people out here type it without giving it any thought.
Your sister is just trying to get your attention and guess what?
Every time you get upset she feels a little bit of satisfaction.
Ignore her and eventually she will go on to something else. It is a part of growing up.
My daughter started stealing my son's underwear and hiding them because she couldn't razz him anymore.
after he put itching powder in hers they eventually came to a truce and today they are best friends.
It will get better.

Offer her a dollar or 2 a week to stop calling you names, or give her a big hug every time she calls you a names (little sisters hate that)... its just a sister thing, she will get over it!

stop playing their games. ignore them, do other things with that time.
don't take them seriously, don't fall for their attention whoring. so what you're average, they're obviously seriously emotionally stunted. they're the "retard".
don't expect anything from her... just ignore her, stay away from her. do things for yourself in your own time. don't expect respect from someone mental like that who wants to insult others to make themselves feel superior and she's obviously in need of acceptance and attention.
so cut that off. see what happens.. numb yourself to her assaults. keep ignoring it and roll your eyes at her and then walk away.

Laugh along with it. People call you names to get attention. If they find that it doesn't get any negative reaction out of you, they'll stop because it stops being amusing. If she's saying it in anger, then try to calm her.
