Up to the edge. Then you are chasing the dog inside the woods.
At some point you will be chasing the dog out of the woods, and then when you reemerge from the woods you will be chasing the dog outside the woods.

Until you hit a tree, or trip over a log, or get eaten by a bear or something horrible like that! In fact, if I were you I'd just stay out of the wood all together! Let the dog run in then sneak round to the other side and wait for it to come out!!
