A friend and I are going to Vegas for the first time, but we're not sure where we should stay. Nothing overly expensive...we're pretty much going for an extended weekend—so about a 3 night stay somewhere. We want to do the usual sight seeing, shopping, and stuff like that. Anyone have any good recommendations?

We'll be there mid-September...are there any good shows around that time really worth seeing?

Thanks!

The Stardust runs good middle of the week specials. Also, they are tearing it down at the end of the year. Circus Circus is pretty reasonable, but more children - depends on your preference. Just about ANY show at the House of Blues is great. We saw Ted Nugent. We haven't seen any of the O or Mystere's - but we plan to in a couple of weeks - we're gonna get Mystere and La Reve at the Wynn. Go to the lasvegasadvisor. Great info.

First you have to know that since you are going on a weekend the prices of all hotels are higher than the usual weekdays. It also depends if you want to stay on the strip or downtown Las Vegas. Some of the least expensive hotels on the strip are Excalibur, Luxor, Bally's, Flamingo Hilton, Aladdin, and sometimes you can find good deals on New York New York and Monte Carlo. As far as sight seeing goes at night time for about $10 per person you can go up in the Eiffel Tower at the Paris, if you are into flowers and stuff like that there is the garden area of the Bellagio. Pretty much the majority of the new hotels have malls inside of them. If you want a mall that is more affordable and every day clothing the Aladdin hotel as the Desert Passage shops. As far as shows are concerned it all depends on what you are interested in. I put some websites on here that you might want to look at. It gives prices of hotels, airfare, sight seeing packages, and shows.

Its best if you can find a hotel on the strip;try Harrahs or the Flamingo Hilton (very nice but not too expensive)
If you buy a pkg. which includes airfare you may be able to afford a nicer hotel like MGM, Bellagio,TI, Mirage or Caesars
If you are flying, see if you can find a package from Southwest airlines in house travel agency. Prices are the lowest around
(www.swavacations.com)
Be sure you try the buffet at The Wynn hotel, see a show by Cirque de Soleil and go shopping at the Las Vegas outlets
You can also take a day trip to Hoover Dam or fly over the Grand Canyon
Celine Dion may be back from vacation;if not Elton John will be performing at Caesars

You can try to stay in "South Coast Hotel". The room is big and very nice! And there price is really not that expensive over the weekend. But you got to watch out for any convention weekend, cos all hotel price will go sky high. About what show to see in Vegas, is really depend how much you want to spend and what kind of show you want to see... Now, actually if you want variety show, you can try "The V show" in Aladdin. oh, i forgot, Aladdin is not doing any show til further notice..because of remodeling. Then you can try the variety show in Riviera, the price is not that much anyway....

If you really want to go shopping, I'll suggest you go to the one by Primm Valley. That is a big outlet and had most of the brand name there too.

If you're looking for buffet in Vegas, I highly recommend Wynn Hotel. The price is about $35 each, but all friends and I agree that is the best buffet in town. (even my boyfriend don't like buffet, he also like that place too.)

So, enjoy your stay and have fun....!!

With Vegas, you should be able to find a hotel/air deal. You will want to stay at one of the hotels along the Sunset Strip.

I recommend Treasure Island because it usually has good lodging/air deals. They're usually like 3 nights @$199/person which includes, air, lodging, sometimes even takes care of your buffets and stuff like that.

You can find cheaper hotels, but then you will be off the strip and that would defeat the purpose of going to Vegas in the first place.

At Treasure Island, you'll have access to all the Casinos, rides, shopping, shows, and "cheap eats."

Have fun, and remember: "What happens at Vegas, STAYS AT VEGAS!"

The Hard Rock is awesome but off the strip. On my first visit to Vegas I stayed there--never really left the strip. When i did i found myself running back to the hotel.

NY NY is nice. Stratosphere are mediocre accomodations at reasonable rates.

MGM is for an older crowd...rooms are not that impressive (with all of their hype) My room at Hard Rock was twice the size.

also rented a house before. check out www.vrbo.com

I'm not sure of any good shows that they will have at that time, but you can look all that up.
As far as Hotels, there are a lot of them that have " specials " and charge very low rates per night. Look for those.
The last time I was there, we stayed one ( can't think of the name of it right now !!! Grrrrrr !!!! ), but it was one of the nicer ones, and I DO remember paying only $49.00 a night. ( They only do it occasionally in order to get you to come )
You can look it up on the Internet or you Sunday paper under " Travel " They have all the least expensive listings.
Good luck, and have a GREAT time !!!

Excalibur is a decent hotel on the strip, and its one of the lowest priced hotels also. Since you'll be going around to different casinos all day and shopping, you're smart not to spend too much on a room to sleep in.

I can really recommend the luxor hotel, it is a hotel shaped in a pyramid. It is not that expensive either, but it is really, really nice and something different. I stayed there for honeymoon. Check out www.luxor.com. It is on the strip.

I had went to vegas 2 weeks ago. me and my friends stayed at the Las Vegas Hilton. When we saw the place, i thought, this place looks like crap (the building), but inside it was REALLY nice. we had a good time at the casino, going to its restraunts and seeing sites around LV. Me and my friends went for a conference.
but hey, have a good time. : )
