I just went for mine too im 8 weeks. They will do an ultrasound to see how far along you are. In the ultrasound as well its posible you can hear the heartbeat, I know I did with mine. You have no reason to be scared and if you are and you see your baby on that screen and that heartbeat, it all melts away. Don't worry about having questions, being pregnant is a confusing time. If you need a friend you can always add me to your yahoo messenger with this name and I'll be there if you need someone to talk to.

My first appt they did blood work, urine test, asked for my family medical history. Then the doctor told me my due date(figured from the last period i had) did a pap, and gave me my prenatal vitamins. With my first child they didn't do an ultrasound until 20 wks. This time due to complications they did one at 7 wks 5 days. So unless there is some type of complication don't expect an ultrasound for a while.

It's up to the doctor if they are going to do an early ultrasound. He'll probably do a pap smear if you're due, and he'll order all your blood work. Depending on how far along you are he may try to hear the heartbeat. If you aren't taking prenatal vitamins yet, which you should be, he'll give you some.

You'll give a urine sample, they'll do a blood pressure check. I did get an early ultrasound, but they told me I would before the visit. I don't remember if we did a blood workup during the first or second visit, but that's coming soon. The pap was during my second visit.
Other than that, it's a Q&A session. I got a list of foods and medicines to avoid, and based on my last period, she gave me the due date.
It's nothing to be afraid of!

ultersounds are not ALWAYS done early but can be done to see how far you are to be sure there is a heartbeat. A ultersound is usually done 18 to 20 weeks some doctors will not do one unless there is a problem before then. Yes they should give a good guess of how far along you are and tell you a due date. scared of what/? they do a pap smear usually blood presure look at your pee and talk to you nothing to be scared of at all.

Melissa, hit it right on the head. Little hint: If you tell them you are unsure of the first day of your last period they may be more inclined to do an ultrasound. But don't be discouraged if it doesn't look like anything yet.
