The company who manufactures this Marantz should be able to assist you in obtaining any replacement parts for it, if they are still available...by your giving them the serial number from the unit and Make and Model number. You may pay a bit more for these parts through the manufacturer directly so I suggest you locate a store in your area that might carry similar products from this manufacturer. They might possibly have parts or know how to get them for you at a better price.

As for repairs/warranty work...if it is past the warranty period no work under that period will be completed that was covered. Instead there will/may be a fee to do any work on this unit. The manufacturer then does not have any obligation to deal with you as a client. If the warranty were still in existance, then yes, paperwork that is involved with this warranty and the purchase are indeed necessary as some manufacturers expect the customer to include a copy of this warranty document and invoice with the unit when sending for repairs.

Therefore, the best recourse at this time would probably be to locate someone who does repairs and supplies parts for this product. Usually manufacturers don't bother with products that are past the one year date of purchase unless the warranty extends to a 2 or 5 year period. If the unit has been discontinued, the manufacturer normally does not service or supply parts any longer directly to a consumer. They may however continue to supply dealers depending on the number of units that have sold and are still in active existence. Records of such purchases would be used by the manufacturer to determine if number of sold units warrant continuing to carry parts.

Hope this works out for you and you are successful in locating someone to assist you in whatever repairs/parts you require.

Take care

In the US, possession is 9/10 of the law. You say it's old, it's obviously not on warranty. Why do they care if you have proof of ownership. Is Marantz the "proof of ownership police"? If they give you flack tell them you're getting it fixed as a surprise for your uncle Leo...

I don't think you will be able to get them to repair it for you. I think the most you will be able to do is buy replacement parts through them.
