A cold boot is when you turn the computer on after it's been turned off. A warm boot is when you restart your computer without actually turning off the power.

A cold boot is when you shut the computer off some time before and turned it on hours or days later. A hot boot is to restart it when it is already on. Good question!!!

Dear Sir,

Hot boot is when you hit the reset button or restart from within Your OS. Cold boot is unplugging the power cable, plugging it back in and powering on the unit after it has been off.

Kind regards,
Ben

A cold boot involves copying BIOS info to RAM, which process could be affected by wavering CMOS values; a hot boot keeps CMOS powered all the time and might even by-pass the copying process (hence a troublefree start)

It it the different between choosing "Shut Down" and "Restart" in the shutdown window. A "Shut Down" turns the PC completely off and you have to turn it back on (cold boot), while a restart does not turn the com[uter completely off, it just unloads and reloads Windows (warm boot).
