If you're talking about a rack every test tube holder I've ever seen has been made out of wood or metal or plastic, if you're talking about the clamps to carry the tubes, every one I've ever seen has been made out of metal. So who says that they have to be made out of glass?

because the glass is unaffected by acids and any of the liquids put into it.

it's transparent, you can see what's going on inside. unlike plastic, it's not poisonous when it melts, & it won't get dissolved easily by the acids and stuff.
