The rumor everyone has heard is that Steve committed suicide. Well… public suicide that is. He had a terrible addiction to drugs which he could not shake, so (of course) as a mega-global worldwide representation to children of how to act, think, and behave, Nickelodeon Studios (owners of the Sub Division Nick Jr.) could not stand for this and had to let him go.
Sounds very convincing doesn't it?
However, the TRUTH is, the man who played Steve on Blues Clues was a man by the name of Steve Burns.
Burns, host of Blue's Clues, the popular television show for preschoolers broadcast on Nickelodeon, is exceedingly healthy and not the slightest bit dead. He's neither been run over by a car nor done himself in by a heroin overdose, the two most popular paths this particular rumor has taken. (Another version claims he was arrested for heroin possession. That too is false, as is the rumor about his being a porn star.) He left the show, (and was replaced by a man named Donovan Patton – acting as Steve’s brother Joe on the show while Steve goes off to college) to pursue his music career. Burns has done just fine for himself, by the way, joining forces with members of the Flaming Lips and releasing a solo disc called "Songs for Dustmites".

According to the article on Wikipedia, Steve Burns left the show to pursue a musical career. Apparently, he also was having problems landing non-children's roles as an actor - I remember one interview where he was chided by a parent for taking a role as a less-than-desirable character, and the parent was worried how their kid would react to seeing Steve as a "bad man".

well i just gotta say 1 thing he was tired of all the crap that goes onto that show... sure im 16 but how old are you ill be back to see how old you are if ur like 10 u should be embarrised blues clus is for about 2 year olds
