They sure can petition to have him impeached. It is your First Amendment right "....to petition....". However, writing a petition will not result in impeachment, as it is the role of the House to issue Articles of Impeachment. Then, the Articles are debated in the Senate wherein they vote to convict or not convict. Two presidents have been impeached, one for violation of an order of Congress, and the second, for lying under oath in a federal trial. both Presidents were Southern Democrats, impeached by Republicans in congress, and neither President was convicted.

It should be. I live in Canada, I wish it was possible for another country to have him impeached. I'd start the petition myself. Bush has done too much for personal gain and not the benefit of the citizens. He is using the people of America and I think it needs to stop.

Yes, but you must have a legal basis to impeach the President. Read the constitution on articles of impeachment. The grounds are well stated.

yes, but the investigation still has to be held in the House of Representatives, and the trial is in the Senate. Make damn sure that the Democrats win in November 2006 and there is a chance that bush will be impeached ... not that it will really matter since he will be out by January 2009. And removing him from office only put Cheney into the slot. Not a damn thing will change. The best we can do now is ride out this term, hope things don't get worse, and fix this mess when he is out of office.

you can petition to do anything. It would take a lot (millions and millions) of signatures in order to have impeachment even be a possibility. It would also be very difficult to organize such a large scale petition and be able to verify the signatures. If everyone got together and had people from all over the caountry to do pettitions in the towns they live in and compile them then you might be able to get somewhere. Good luck though!! And I will sign!!!

specific! you may petition for something you like - some human beings signed a petition stressful the government create a dying celebrity. you may get some legislators in touch with a view to ultimately get the form replaced so as that "Cuz i do in comparison to him" is an impeachable offense. call your representatives immediately!

A petition as you may typically know it would not be enough, but it would raise public support.
There has to be a certain amount of requirements met, since the government holds such total power these days.
Best to refer to the Declaration of Independence on this one :
"But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security."

Theoretically, the only way a president can be impeached is through the will of the citizens, and that can be initiated through petitions.
Assuming congress abides by the will of the citizens.

No - A cititzen petition will not do any good.
HOWEVER - Get a petition going and send it to your congressperson and have someone do it in every state (for their congresspersons) might get something goinf.
But I would think twice before impeaching Bush - The line of succession is Chaney and then Rice.
