I am moving from the state of CA where I have spent over 30 years in to the state of TX where I am starting a new chapter in my life. I want a tattoo on my back below my neck. Something with a round shape to it that fits in that area on my back. A sun, star or something that just fits in that area. I want it to have meaning that symbolizes where I came from and where I am going. Does anyone have any cool ideas?

If you don't have something you really want, I'd wait a bit longer. Tattoos are forever unless you cover them up with something else, usually bigger, or pay to have them laser removed.

Texas is the Lone Star State - state motto "Friendship".
California is the Golden State - state motto "Eureka".

You want to incorporate both, so maybe a golden star?

Like stated above, the colors that are used currently are very different than the colors of the past that you might be thinking about. There are so many more (50 -100 I hear ??) and they last much nicer. Also, my understanding is that artist actually don't go as deep and it doesn't tend to blur like in the past. My understanding is that white doesn't stay well, and yellow and the other really light colors - but are still effective as highlights and are easily touched up every so often (and I am sure the longevity of tattoo colors is being worked on) The color that you want is good and rich and should hold up very well as long as you take excellent care during the healing time, and use a high sunblock every time you go out in the sun after it heals (do not use while healing because it can pull color out). Also, do not use petroleum products while healing, it is safest to use unscented Lubriderm and a light coat. Go for it!

One trend I have seen with tattoos in that area are chinese symbols for a word that you think or want to describe your personality or spiritor your love of the world, such as courage or beauty or sunshine. It's a little played out, but its very hard finding a tatooo that isnt, unless you draw your own!!
