The Internet Watch Foundation has called for more international cooperation to block web sites containing abusive images of children. Given that the government is there to protect and serve us - shouldn't it be their duty to take legal action against any "body" or "company" which stores these images on its servers - such as an ISP?

its a shame its out there , i think it is up too the government to take away such images on the net .
the worst thing is that people looking for porn and quite innocently , get on to these sites by accident sometimes , a male Friend was telling me he came across it after looking up a bondage site ! don't get me wrong i know some people are against porn but i feel its a better way for some people to get kicks than actually performing some sexual acts ...
i think if Innocent people can come across it from some web pages
then surly the government etc can find and eliminate this stuff !?
at the end of the day your right in what you say , you should not be looking up this stuff , plus it may be a hoax and you'll be in big trouble for entering any of these sites ! plus there should be a body to protect innocent viewers of porn too ..

Sadly, is it these less savioury characters driving the Internet forward, helping finance the exponential growth of the net.

That said, there is a line between 'adult content' and the far more depraved content out there. The IWF does do a good job, but I'd draw a firm line between policing and regulating.

For certain types of sites (you know that I mean...) ISP's, local and International police will take action - often within minutes of being informed for reputable ISP's.

have you any idea how much data an isp storage holds?
its impossible to keep track of all the data.
you can suggest that once they find out they have to remove it and report the user but you cant fine the ISP for something they have almost no control over.

The last thing we need is the government regulating what they feel is "appropriate" on the net.
