How do they think people will be killed inland far from the sea?

Because a typhoon, just like a hurricane, can effect areas well inland. Depending on the winds, I have seen hurricanes effect areas up to 150 miles inland.

Severe weather associated with a typhoon can travel far inland. For example, a hurricane in the 1950's traveled from the Gulf of Mexico into Ontario and caused local flooding.
