Being South African by birth does not make me bias in my response to the question. Just by the past performance in terms of hosting international events, I do not see why 2010 World Cup will be any different. South Africa has hosted the AFCON, Rugby World Cup, Olympic Games to name but a few - and all these were a success. This is no different to any other sporting event.

In terms of infrastructure, South Africa has more than 15 world class soccer stadiums that can host the best soccer match in the world - the biggest accommodating above 80 000 spectators, the least of these accommodating 40 000 spectators and on average accommodating 60 000 - 65 000 spectators.

And ofcourse, the are a whole lot of other of the field aspects to be considered - and yes South Africa can handle those as well.

So without a doubt, the 2010 world cup is going to be a success - you will be there to see it.

Firstly LOL at Eric D, there is no WC in 2007, i hate it when plp answer with absolutely no knowledge of what they are talking about.

To answer your question, I am a South Africa, and had big doubts about the WC in SA at first. However judging by the success of other sporting world cups we have hosted, such as Rugby and Cricket, and by how much the people of SA want it to be a success i think it will be. The government is pulling together and actually making progress on our infrastructure.
SO YES I DO THINK THE WORLD CUP 2010 WILL BE THE BEST EVER. I ONLY HOPE YOU WILL MAKE THE TRIP TO SEE IT.

I don't see why it shouldn't be successful, no matter where it's held. Actually, the World Cup has gained an overwhelming amount of popularity in the last few years and I think it's popularity will continue to grow, globally.

I don't think it will be a great success because it will be in South Africa, but that doesn't matter because Italia will win it! And that is what will make it a success!
