If you're referring to the Hezbollah, perhaps they are being described as sophisticated because they seem to be better organized and trained than most guerrilla groups. Sophisticated in a military, not a fashion sense. This also makes it seem like more of a fair match between them and the IDF. We wouldn't want to think this was a fight between David and Goliath, would we? They would be the underdog and there are too many people who always root for the underdog. It's sophisticated terrorists vs. sophisticated army.
