It depends on your definition of exotic. In some places that term covers all small animals, including even mice and rats. Sometimes it covers them all but hamsters, mice, and rats. It also depends on where you live too. I know where I am animals like degus, ferrets, and gerbils are very common pets, but many other places don't get them at all.
Gerbils and degus are fairly easy to take care of. Llamas are considered exotic sometimes, but of course you need much more room for one of those.
Sugar gliders, kinkajous, bush babies, and flying squirrels are more kept in America, but are considered exotic in most Canadian provinces. These are generally more expensive and need more socialization, but can be nice pets too.
Don't get something "exotic" just because you think it sounds neat. Do some research on specific species and find out what best suits your schedule and personality.
If you have a super busy schedule, I wouldn't get anything, but there are a few pets that are okay for fairly busy people. If you have lots of time to kill then something like a sugar glider or ferret might be okay afterall. It also depends on how much money you're willing to spend. Ferrets need regular vaccinations, more like a cat or dog, but all animals are likely to need a vet visit at least once in their life.

Sometimes, I think that that question should be " would an exotic be safe at my house?" Just make sure that you know how to properly care for whatever animal you get, and that you are committed to taking care of it for it's whole life. There are so many places to look up exotics on the internet, read what they eat, what their habbits are, and how they act and that should tell you which one is right for you.

We have already got 7 cats, 3 dogs, 2 goats, 10-15 reptiles and amphibians, 5 birds, over one hundred fish, adn 2 mice. you would possibly want to work out the seems i'm getting from human beings after I aspect out that I have puppy mice! There are human beings accessible in spite of the undeniable fact that that acquire those "unique" pets and then both do not opt to take care of them after the "marvel fee' of possessing one has worn off, or do purely not take care of them proper. it is how i finished up with maximum of my relations. i have followed neglected, undesirable pets from different households for extra or less the perfect 10 years or so. certain, you ultimately end up inheriting some different person's problem newborn, yet it is a probability you're taking. good success to you and that i'm satisfied to work out some different person that receives humorous seems because of their pets! Chinchillas are great in a house with no small children. They are cute, soft, curious. They have no odor, take dust baths only (their fur can't get wet)and are so unique in a lot of ways.
Do some research on this furry creature, you'll learn alot!
