Hye All,

I just installed my new motherboard (MSI-K8 based) and processor AMD Athlon 2800+

Along with RAM 256MB, but the thing is that display is not coming on the monitor and nor the system is booting.

Fans are working but the monitor only shows dimmed light, and also, red light of the CPU is always on (never blinks)

Please help me out, what could be problem??

Something is not installed correctly so it is not completing the POST and getting to the point where it sends out anything to display.

Disconnect everything but the porcessor and try booting. Should here some beeps as the system board will give a no memory error. If so, porcessor is good. Shut down, add memory 1 stick at a time and see if boots.

Keeping adding items one at a time until you find the item that is preventing the boot up.

Hi, I have got it right..........

The only problem was that I just didn't plugged the power connector of the CPU and hence the red light was coming.

Thank you guys nevertheless for you nice suggestions. More so to Dr. Luckii who gave me the hint that may be my CPU wasn''t working....

Red light? I assume you mean the case light in which event you are referring to the hard drive activity LED. There are too many possibilities to list here, but try this, check the onboard video... if you are using this, try a dedicated card... reset the BIOS... try different RAM... try different hard drive... etc

i had similar problem, fans were spinning but no display. i found out it was my cpu that was not working. lightly touch the heatsink above the cpu. if it doesnt get warm after a few mins of being on, its dead.
