If the most imediate threat of terrorism is from young Arab men, is it racist to target these people when trying to catch terrorists. I'm sure young Irish men felt the same during the 70's.

Watch the news. 21 Islamic men tried to blow up 6 planes in the UK.

Well according to the ACLU it is.

Think about it, IF the US government had fairly reliable information that terrorists of Arab descent were planning to hijack four planes and crash them into buildings sometime in September of 2001. What could they have done without drawing all kinds of flak from the Democrats, Press, and the ACLU?

The following actions would be taken at every airport in the US.

1. Ground all aircraft starting September 1?
2. Stop all persons who looked like they might be Arab from flying starting September first?
3. Strip search all Arab looking men before they would be allowed to board aircraft starting September first?
4. Go on public TV and Radio and say there is a high possibility of a terrorist attack and describe the details of what you know?
5. Put your solution here._________________________

As long as the officer feels a need to search, they can do so. All they need is 'probable cause' and you are taken aside and searched. In this case, they are not going to take any chances since the terrorists are trying to blow up folks that don't want to die and have succeeded at least once with a loss of over 5000. It will not stop until they do. Reality versus civil rights. Personally, I would submit to a search if they nailed some nut by being careful. Hope this helps!!

The Police have continuously been prevalent to apply powers they might desire to handle one set of situations as a fashion and ability to handle some thing completely distinctive. As with the huge worldwide warming con, anti terrorism rules are being misused with the aid of many human beings in authority. The close by authority at a beach hotel (Poole in Dorset i've got faith) has used those anti terrorism rules to ascertain if childen utilizing for specific faculties have been somewhat resident exterior the catchment section.! What hazard will you have whilst they usher in id enjoying cards ? OH specific, i assume in case you have been of a distinctive shade they might not have bothered as they could have been afraid you may play the race card !!

I don't think it is necessarily racist in the sense that there is any malice or hatred in the stopping of, for instance, young arab men. I guess it is discriminatory in that you are using a factor which you believe to be common to all potential threats, and targeting this over the rest of the population.

I would say though if this is stopped, you would have to stop searching any people who appear as though they may potentially steal, or murder or fight. So to a certain extent it is the polices job to be discriminatory. Its called profiling.

I know what you're saying.

Seeing as we're at high risk from a terror attack from Muslims at the moment, it would make sense to search Muslims boarding public transport.

However, this would be seen as an infringement of their human rights. And obviously it would be singling a minority group out and it may be unfair on some people who may feel discriminated against. Yet as it is only Muslims who are trying to attack us at the moment, it seems pointless searching other people.

It's a circular argument. Would probably cause more hatred and uprising and riots in the end.

We seem to be unable to do anything.

Some will call it "profiling" but I see your point. If I call the cops and say that a tall man with red hair broke into my house it would be pointless to stop short men with brown hair but there are those out there that think it's "racist" and want to stop it. They 're just getting in the way.

No, I do not see it as racist, just realistic. In this case it is not only is a religious ideology that is at the heart of the problem, but also a definite race of people.

I really don't think it is a good idea to categorize millions of innocent people based on the lunatic actions and reactions of a VERY nutty and cowardly few,, crazy *ss extremists.

Besides,, who ever said you had to have a dark completion and a "middle eastern" look to be a religious nut,,,

Do you want the police to pull YOU over and search you because in (their) opinion you look like you "might" be a terrorist?

I think that there should definitely be racial profiling in this instance. If I got on a plane and there were five arabs in the aisle seats, I'd say "like Hell!" and get off of the plane just as fast.

Didn't the same thing happen to the cubans and japanese? It seems our government feel it may be the only way to weed out the terrorist.
