cuz i think i seen one this morning about 2in. in length and about 1in. in width

Well..
You are about right.
The body of the Dog-Day will be a bout 1" and with from eyes to the rear tip of their wings 2.125 is plausible.
The wings can span, for this size, can span over 2.5"

However 1" is a bit too wide for these wide insects. I would say about 1/3" is wide enough.

Nature lovers in northerly sections of the U.S. are astounded periodically by massive outbreaks of 13 and 17 year cicadas. The "Dog-day Cicada", named because it is particularly active in the hot, humid "dog days" of August, are rather large insects averaging slightly more than two inches in length, but they make far more noise than their size might indicate.
