On the contrary, it works the other way around. If you have no or low expectations, life can't disappoint. If you build up expectation however, it can disappoint. In all probability Murphy's Law will com in effect then too - things will go wrong, not as you expected it, and you live unsatisfied.
This is how it works on a day to day basis, but I daresay it fits the bigger picture as well.
