If they have a high speed Internet connection then you have some options. Windows XP Professional comes with remote desktop sharing. You can also use VNC. You'd have to open a port on their firewall to access either one.

personally I have used the built in software remote desktop but I think you have to have xp pro or xp media center to use that not to sure about xp home never used it before. I have also have been using pcanywhere lately and it works great and very simple to setup. Good luck, I had the same problem my parents live a little over an hour away and every little thing they would call about and walking them through anything takes forever so made them by a new laptop with xp on it so I could easily remote in, best thing I ever did.

Well, If you have Windows XP and they have it as well you could use Remote Assistance to help them out. Go to Start>All Programs and it should be there (usually around where the Outlook Icon is). Then, whenever they need help they can just go to Remote Assistance and send you an invitation so you can work on their computer from yours.

Download NetMeeting- its free and the address is http://www.microsoft.com/windows/netmeeting/download/default.asp.
You dont have to download it if you have windows 2000.
With Windows XP, you go to start, programs, accessories, communications, and then click Remote Desktop Connection.
Then you need the other persons computer name, which I think is their IP address, but I am not sure about that. It could also be their phone number, so try a few things. Ive used it before, and I think we just used IP addresses.
Good Luck!
