It is your choice to have sex or not so ya it's the right idea just make sure she knows why you don't want to. Other wise she may think that you don't like her.

I think you're being responsible. My two best friends wound up pregnant in high school. If you decide to have sex make sure you are prepared for everything that comes with it.
