I think it comes done to either the War on Drugs or New Deal.
The drug war is a waste of money and a war that hasn't been won and can't be won. We have been fighting it for nearly 30 years. Almost half of the people in jail today are non-violent drug offenders. With the jails filling up and the ones that we need to catch, will sooner or later need to waste more money building more jails for them. Also some law enforcement have come out and said we need to stop it. We spend like 20 million dollars a day i think (its from Stossels book Give me a break).
The other top problem is Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal program. This is the beginning of the growth of big government. Before this government didn't get involved with economics as much and from here on the government started to balloon and enable other socialists like Johnson to come in and claim the "Great Society." Oh did i say Socialist i meant Democrat. Also FDR's New Deal is Keynesian economics, which according to FA Hayek leads to the enablity of an Totalitarian state. The reason for this is property rights are decreased therefore your rights start to fade (sound familiar? because its happening today).

The biggest mistake would be the mistake that resulted in the greatest avoidable harm with the least redeeming benefit. Not recognizing the threat of islamic fascism sooner is probably the biggest mistake. Islamic fascism has fueled bloodshed and destruction all over the world for decades. A little more effort eliminating this threat earlier on and in requiring other nations to recognize the perversion of islamic fascism may well have prevented it from developing as it has. But it's still not too late to correct this mistake.

hello David, i don't believe of that Bush replaced into the most important mistake. i'd be sorry to work out him bypass. He did a particularly reliable job. The worst mistake in recent situations replaced into Jimmy Carter. nice guy yet no longer a good president. Obama is a delightful guy in his own acceptable yet I do merely not see him as being the reliable chief that he's portraying the following. I do desire he makes a good president and certain i recognize that you recognize he will yet he's not there yet. shall we wait and word what he does and what type of a record he is going to have in the previous calling George Bush the most important mistake that us of a ever made.

Prohibition was one mistakes this country adopted as result of actions of so moral leaders who imposed their minority rights upon the majority. Looking at the overall results of Prohibition it help to lead to depression of 1930's . Loss of jobs and revenue for the government. They believed that if you took way person right to drink all the problems of society would be solved.
Mistake number two is the "election of Bush" as president. It would take all day to explain why this was and is a mistake.

I agree that was a bad idea. I think there are a lot but we have learned from them. I don't know what I would say the biggest mistake was because there are so many years of history and we have been doing a pretty good job. I think not drilling oil from Alaska would be up there.

" Any society that sacrifices a little liberty to gain a litlle security, will gain neither and lose both" ~ Benjamin Franklin
Those are the mistakes we (U.S.) are making now. We need to get back to what our forefathers had in mind.
