I passed my car driving licence about 20 years ago, but i'm still qualified to drive a 7.5 tonne lorry. I know that the law has changed now, but it seems crazy !

well if you never let you license expire then you are still good for it.
and since the law change after you got your license the changes do not apply to you.

I passed my test 7 years ago and I'm allowed to drive one. You think thats bad, my uncle when he passed didn't even have to do a test, you had to apply for a licence at the post office and just had to tick the boxes you wanted. He ticked them all so could drive an artic, roadroller, motorbike, etc. Saying that though, this was in the 40s.

The government has realised that letting everyone drive 7.5 tonners is not a good idea, thats why new drivers will have to take a second test if they wish to drive them.

They cannot take away your license because they do not know if your work depends on it

It's called 'grandad rights', the law was not made retrospective, because it was felt to, and well could have, penalised people who were already driving those types of vehicles.
Basically, it was deemed unfair to remove a right to drive 7.5 ton vehicles when you had already passed a test that, at the time, said you were fit to drive them.

Perhaps you are "licensed" to drive one, but I bet if you went to apply for a job driving one, you would find that you are not "qualified." Big difference.

AS SAID "GRAD DAD RIGHTS2 AND YOU CAN DRIVE I 7.5 AS A JOB BUT YOU WOULD HAVE TO DRIVE UNDER TACO. IF YOU HIRED ONE AND DROVE FOR PERSONNEL USE (NOT FOR GAIN) YOU DONT USE THE TACO
YOU SHOULD CHECK ALL CATEGORIES ON YOUR LICENCE
