I mean, all whites are mixed in one way or another. When an American says, "I'm American" he/she's not totally American of course. So, what's with people being racist about mixed/coloured people if they're mixed themselves???

Nora22000-- I'm a quite devout Christian and think nothing like that! Or at least, not so harshly. I hope you weren't generalizing...

Susan Donahue-- I completely disagree with your last part. An American is never 100% so. It's nice that all of you are always trying to connect each other, but it's entirely wrong- you have to admit- to say that everyone in and even born in America is totally American. I would even consider it a bit arrogant! Americans are mixed and that's that. Maybe some more than others, but the "ONE NATION" is all mxed no matter what.

There are many factors to racism. Racism may not even be about skin color but social standing. Racism can come from ignorance, experience, low self-esteem. I think one of the biggest reasons for racism, especially in America is due to certain groups that make too many excuses for being at the bottom of the food chain. Also there is a lot of jealousy towards other groups like the asians. Because they strive the hardest and get ahead while the rest of lazy America complains and does nothing to better itself, groups like these are targeted for harrassment and racism. Look at the media and how they portray Asians; geeky, submissive, naive. I think that almost every group in America is in some way guilty of racism. Let's take the Whiteman for instance: white people are generally snobby and look down on others who aren't white. They also think they rule the world. There are some racist African Americans out there also but not to the extreme. One of the reasons why there is racism towards blacks in America is because people feel (not just white folks) that they don't work as hard and complain too much and committ too many crimes in the cities. Asians, are a prosperous people so the average American looks down upon them because they work harder than he or she does. Now, don't get the thinking that Asians aren't racist. The problems with the Asian community is self accecptance. Take the Oriental women, whether chinese, vietnamese, etc, they don't really take a liking or sexual appeal to or of their men. Why do you think so many of them date white man? Even East Indian women rather enage in a relationship with a white man than their own. Hispanics just plainly refuse to accept that they're Americans and will not learn English. That is one of the reasons of racism towards them, because they don't parade of how proud they are to be in America but rather wave the Mexican flag or PR flag or commie flag (cuban). I'm of Latin descent but I consider myslelf an American whether the KKK, NAACP, Hispanic Alliance thinks so or not. I don't care what they think. If people challenge that, I say, "No I'm not your average ******* who jumps fences and join gangs to better myself or no I'm not that dumb Puerto Rican with a 6th grade education who sells drugs on the streets and steals what isn't his. I simply say I'm an American citizen and respect this country". I am who I am and feel that I don't need to follow what the Latino mindframe needs out of me. Being Latino, I'm sickened by other Latinos and their stupidity. Not all, just the ones who make life harder to live. So, racism isn't just black and white. There is no clear cut definition of it. Just be yourself, do what you have to do, live and let live, and make the best out life. Let's not forget work hard.

Have you noticed how many forms ask you to indicate your race? Nearly all of them are government forms or forms that are used to report racial statistics to the government. Since the government is more interested in race than individuals, I think it is logical to conclude that there is a reason, and political reasons almost always lead to two motives - money and power.
It is not difficult to see that a great deal of political power is gained from defining racial groups. A political party can pander to people of so called minority status by offering programs and resources (money) to benefit specific groups.
If people were truly committed to racial equality, they would demand that governments, from the Congress to the local school board, not be allowed to gather racial statistics and that all people, regardless of origins, be treated equally under the law.
By the way, the question posed seems to imply that there is a connection between nationality and race. That is not so, at least not in the United States. If a person is American, either by birth or by naturalization, they are 100% American and entitled to the same priviledges and subject to the same responsibilities as every other citizen of the United States. We are ONE NATION.

I have found in my varied experience and world travels that I by and far get treated worse for being white by people of colour than I would ever treat anyone of any nationality. Racism is not just white against everyone else. But to answer your question I think it starts at home, parents teach their children how to be racists, comments they make, actions they take, they may not even mean to do it but that is where it starts.

Intelligent people know that racism is as wrong as any other fancy-isms. If you hate a racist, you are also in the rank of another fancy-ism.
Love and proper education will cause everybody to know that hunanity is one. Nowadays, millions of travellers, refugees, interracial couples, traders, diplomats... move around the world, all sorts of prejudices will soon be removed peacefully.

Although most people think that they are not racist, people are inherently prejudiced at least by a little bit.
Because we cannot truly understand what another group is feeling, because we are from the outside looking in. Sympathy is much differnet from empathy.

A lot of people have ignorant ideas about who is better or who deserves priviledges. Many times they are people are in power and their opinions get turned to laws. These people reproduce and infect others with their attitude towards ethnicity, and thus, it keeps on going.

racism is caused by the ignorance. not understanding peace and compassion love for others and when someone is asking for more therefore one should undermine the base of society and then the ignorance and wanting more do the rest. look at the Zionists killing Innocent women and children being killed by Israelis boomings in Lebanon -Palestine and etc...

Religion is the source of most racism.
Christians learn that only people like themselves go to heaven and are to be trusted, everyone else is inferior and going to hell. This provides great groundwork upon which to build slavery, racism, and otehr horrors.

1. religions because every religion makes you believe that you are right and every one else is wrong, this will naturally turn into racism, we are humans and some of us will turn to extremes
2. capitalism because its ok to enslave other people to increase your profits, and you can't enslave people if you are not a racist

many people are biased. many people are also so self-centered. a lot of people also think that they are much better than others. a lack of genuine love and concern for their fellow human beings is the root cause.
