No, you're thinking of The Bank Of Scotland. This merged with Halifax BS to form HBoS - an anagram of Bosh! This was already a bit of a disaster - then Lloyds decided to buy the combined bank. Oh dear.

No. Royal Bank of Scotland and Bank of Scotland are different. Halifax is with Bank of Scotland (HBOS). Royal bank remains independent
