His knee isn't healing since the off season surgeries.

Yes. He really should. The man is a little long in the tooth now and he needs to worry about life after football now. He also wants to think about the quality of life he wants to have in retirement. Does he want to be like Jeff Jacoby of the famed Hogs of the Washington Redskins who hasn't been upstairs in his house in 9 years because of arthritis?

He doesn't have a Super Bowl ring. I get it that he may want to continue to play one more year in the hopes that maybe, just maybe the Jets could surprise everyone. Aside from that, he has nothing left to prove. His Hall of Fame induction is all but assured. Retire now and get your ugly yellow jacket in five years.

The Jets won't force him to retire. Coach Mangini might relegate him to being just a 3rd down back if Martin can come back and play this season. If not, he'll be put on the IR, and will start rehabbing for next season. Who knows, maybe a year off from football will help his knee heal up enough to make a comeback next season. It's very possible.

Well considering he told the Jets organization to draft a running back this past April, I think Martin is on his way out. Last season was the first where he didnt rush for 1,000 yards and with his knee ailing, he will never be the same again. I think he had a nice "run" and it's time to step aside.

I don't think he's going to retire just yet. He probably should, but he'll probably pull a "Marshall Faulk" and ride the bench, because he can't let it go lol.
