Yeah it can be hard.
And no, you never even need to go on the ramps. Street skating is a great way to start.
But it takes and will teach you discipline. Most important is to enjoy the whole process. Don't try to go too fast to the goal "of being good". Theoretically it is just as much to fun to learn to Ollie than to 360 nollie heel-flip, some things are intense like the first time you drop in or clear a huge gap, but so is the first time you pull a shove it. The idea is enjoy it now and later who cares if you suck, its for you, learn not to be frustrated and relax. Skateboarding can be the most rewarding thing ever.
Just have fun.

skateboarding is a lot harder than rollerblading...i mean a lot. in rollerblading, you do not have to shift your weight unless you are going over a spine transfer. i do both and i'm pretty good at both. on rollerblades, i'll go on anything no problem, but on a skateboard, it's completely different. so if you are good at rollerblading, stick to it, but if you really really want to skateboard, it will take time. it took me 2 years to learn how to ollie. after that, i started doing shove its, 180s, kickflips, heelflips, and stuff like that.

i would definitly go for rollerblading because you are better at it than skateboarding and u don't want to get hurt but maybe if u get some lessonsyou could get better at both so that u know how to skateboard and go off sweet jumps when ur rollerblading. good luck.

You need to be dedicated and willing to get some scrapes and cuts along the way. Trust me, keep at it and you WILL see improvement, especially if you have friends who are already good to teach you! (thats how I learned!) I am talking about skateboarding... I am not a big fan of the blades.
But snowboarding is awsome too!
