I'm not easily offended, but shows like Raymond and Married With Children irritate me because they display families in such horrible light. Sadly, kids learn a lot from TV and to see kids learning that families go around insulting each other in this manner REALLY bothers me.

I understand what you're saying. "Raymond" is an idiot. If I was a man I'd be truly pissed at the way men are portrayed on TV. Three and a half men is another one. Are all of you pigs willing to cheat because you're at the total mercy of your ****'s? Bet not. It's popular to slam men this decade. In the 70's the kids ran the house and both parents were clueless. (Brady bunch?) Women wrote to the networks and yelled. Every time I saw a mom on TV portrayed as a clueless moron who had no idea what her kids were up to while she "pleased that man of mine" I wrote a letter. Maybe men should try that.

another good example of this is The King of Queens. The husband is always portrayed as a bumbling idiot and the wife (again) suffering because of his ignorance. I refused to watch Raymond because of the wife. She was the worst. And the fact that she continued to win Emmys! Oiy!

First, men do stupid things. Especially the incredibly genius ones. And women do saintly things, giving birth is already known to be the most painful voluntary act on the planet, yet we allow ourselves to become pregnant.
Second, your point about the character Debra is very accurate. She is a disrespectful character. This is to shed light on how women can see outside themselves to how they themselves look during their own disrespectful behavior.
Maybe the male characters are meant to look so ridiculously stupid so that in real life we can appreciate how intelligent and wise our real life men are. Alot of these sitcoms are not rated for child watching, and thus parents who do not heed these ratings are probably not doing a good job in their other areas of parenting either. Don't blame tv for what ails our society, time to pony up the responsibility to the parents.

i never did get into everyone loves Raymond but if i had to guess why sitcoms are written the way they are is because they are probably trying to target the women audience because women do the shopping advertisers pay big bucks for commercials and subtle subliminal messages hidden in the shows themselves,i invite you to watch these shows closely you will notice brand names everywhere so in actuality women are the monkeys because although the shows are initially complimentary they are actually counting on us women to go out and buy all of these products witch we do so who are they really taking for fools

well, it is because the in america, they wanted to erase their discrimination on women before... it is just a cultural reaction to "reverse" what they have damaged long ago...
DON'T worry, it is just TV. through education and awareness, people can erase the stereotyping of dumb men and saintly women...
you know what, im a girl - but i share you point. i don't like that sitcom too. like what our professor said, select and assess what you are watching. if others like to watch girl domination, then so be it. you are educated, and don't let mass selection ruin your critical mind!
here in philippines, it's the reverse. we portray women here as dumb lasses with long legs and no brain. men here are portrayed as the cunning, sly one, always making fool of the woman - and in the end, they end up together!
stupid, really. tsk tsk tsk.

Umm...I suppose that actually goes into reality in my experience. My man can't remember what I tell him for more than five minutes and I just end up doing everything myself. I know he's just being incompetant to get me to do the chores, but I have to berate him to make sure he knows it is NOT ok.
