A co-worker of mine insists that this combination works but I always thought that a brown shirt doesn't go with navy blue.

It all depends on the particular shades. The navy blue and brown you're looking at may not be the shades I'm picturing. I wear brown-blue combinations quite frequently and think they look good together. I've even had compliments when wearing that combination. But again, I don't know the particular shades you're looking at. Those might not work as well as the ones I wear together.

If it is a dark brown shirt that would be pretty intense. It could go it would not clash, but it would be really strong and I would hold off on that until winter. Now a very light tan shirt would look fine or a cream shirt. Hold off for winter or at the very least fall. This is a very intense color combination. It is not the best and if you can dilute it out it would be better. If she can return that brown shirt it would be good because I cannot see that going with many things if it is dark. Perhaps jeans would mellow it out if it is not such a formal shirt.

Okay. See, if you had the shirt, in your case pink/brown and a NON-DENIM bottom (skirt, pants) together, it would be potentionally not matching. But, if you have denim, be it navy blue or any other blue, anything goes with it. You don't have to be all matchy matchy to match! hope this helps

Brown and blue do not blend well. Someone said the brown shirt doesn't go with any blue clothing except blue jeans. Wrong, blue jeans are not exempt from the rules of color. I cannot comprehend why so many people imagine they are. Gay Talese said he would not wear jeans to the corner, and I agree. I am a Nob Hill person, so I wear suits or sports jackets much of the time. I have owned brown shirts. I wore them with tan suits or jackets. If I could wear green, I 'd wear brown shirts with green suits. My coloring is ruddy, and that clashes with green. One might wear a brown shirt with a brown suit, if there is contrast in the two browns. Brown is a dull color, so don't make it duller. I recall having a yellow sports jacket, and I wore brown shirts with it. Don't wear brown with blue or gray. With dark blue suits or jackets, I wear shirts in white, yellow or grey solids or stripes with white ground and blue or maroon pinstripes on it.

Color Palettes is what is needed
this way we can come to understand
color better and what it goes with
like the way they do hair colors

And first of all you have to see the color on the person
It is said no more than 3 colors should be on a person
when the colors are solid

As for myself I like cheerful colors
and what you have described makes me somehow sad
like blah

I hope that brown shirt is not dark
if it is tell them to put on some black shades to match
and then if they go unnoticed they will know why

What kind of outdated fashion sense do you people have? I suppose you all don't wear white before Memorial Day either. Navy blue definitely goes with brown and anybody who says it doesn't needs to take a look at any fashion magazine out there.

Everyone has his or her own personal taste, but brown and blue definitely go together because brown is in the orange family, which is the direct complement to blue. Look at nature. Look in catalogs and magazines. Blue and brown are thrown together quite often and quite successfully.

Brown is a neutral color that goes with anything. Personally, I prefer chocolate browns with blues or pinks or whatever. Kahki goes with navy blue, red, etc. see where I'm going with this?
