Hi! I'm Chinese and can speak Chinese but can't read or write it very well. For English, just try to communicate daily with someone that speaks English well. You can learn a lot from them. Besides, their pronunciation is entirely different from Chinese teachers, who have very very bad accents in English. Believe me, I've heard them!
Listen to American songs and repeat the lyrics if necessary. After a while, you can become acquainted with words more easily. Read newspapers, books, magazines, anything that you can get your hands on. That way, you can learn about stuff and imporve English at the same time.
It can be boring to learn vocabulary but it's about the only way to drasitcally improve. Just keep going and you will get there.
By the way, your English is already very good (written). Hope this helps and good luck!

I'm Chinese too. But I speak/write English better than I speak/write Chinese. If you want to improve English orally, hang out with friends who speaks English as their first language. Speak English in your daily conversation. Learning new words are good, if you know how to use it properly.
Also, read English newspaper everyday including the comics. The comics in the paper use proper English, so no worries of learning the wrong thing. Listen and watch English news on your local television channel. But, sometimes, these newscasters might pronounce certain words wrongly or by mistake as well. You can also learn by watching English movies and dramas with subtitles to help you understand and speak more accurately. Listen to English radio station as well.
Want a fun way to learn English? Listen to English songs that you like, Google the lyrics and print it out. Each time you listen to the song, listen and try to sing it from the printed lyrics. I bet that would be fun.

Your English is fine. Even native English speakers have to go through English class. Just watch alot of English or American movies you like, or movies you like in Chinese that have been dubbed in English. Do the same for books. Chances are you might like popular stuff like Harry Potter. I'm sure it has both a Chinese and an English version.
Also, visit buildyourmemory.com to help facilitate the process.
Have fun. Good luck!

Um you seem to speak better English than most Americans in our post-literate society. And think about it this way most Americans if they tried to learn Chinese would completely fail and probably not be able two speak more than a few phrases. But keep taking speech lessons and here is an out there suggestion...join a choir. Not a gospel choir or anything but a traditional choir that sings classical music and uses good British diction. That will make it much easier. I believe that is one of the reasons that I speak better English than most of my peers although I am an American.

You have to use the new language. At first, you'll feel really clumsy with it, you won't want to speak, you'll be shy, but just use the language: speak, write. And don't write to yourself. Write to other people. This question is a good start. When you have a reason to communicate and you have something to say, it gives you a reason to study more.

your english seems pretty good already(probably better than most of the native speakers on yahoo answers, actually)
to improve, just spend time (more than you might normally) having conversations with native speakers. the more you practice, and the more you get used to speaking smoothly, the better you'll get.

Listen to English radio. It will help. In fact, many people and babies learn languages through listening!
From there, try to imitate them as they speak. Or listen to English songs.
also, try talking to your friends in English. It'll be weird at first, but it is fun. Your friends will not mind as long as you don't irritate them.
Happy listening! and speaking..
