Why not try asking local egg producers ,or asking some farmers and placing an ad in a farmers paper. word will soon get out.

Well done for thinking about adopting rather than just buying chicks!

The Battery Hen Welfare Trust has representatives all over the country (http://www.thehenshouse.co.uk/contact.html) so will be able to rehome locally to you.

Battery hens recouperate quickly and generally end up making great pets. It's only ignorance that makes people think otherwise! Plus you have the joy of seeing a poor mistreated featherless creature turn into a fine looking chicken and start producing eggs naturally.

Please see their website below for more information.

If you live in a rural area SPCA sometimes gets adult chickens that are unwanted Easter pets. Those would be better choices than "battery chicken" as they are generally more socialized to people. If you know of any large egg producers- they might give you some chickens as they typically clear the entire coop at once and the value of those chickens is pretty small-they are not suitable for much else other than soup.

you would have to find the place that has the birds but you are not really rescuing any becuase as soon as you buy some they will just replace them with others...

you would have to buy directly from the battery itself...
they may sell you the ones who are laying less and that would be killed right away

I would like to point out that chickens are not pets, they are a farm animal.
