i have two kids - one has a messenger bag and one has a back pack. Depends on how you carry your books and binder. The one with the messenger bag carries her binder - then one that has the backpack does not. The new bags for ipod users are really cool - at Target

Backpack. Go for LL Bean or Nike or Adidas or North Face or Janesport. They all make great backpacks that will last for a long time. Try to get one with thicker padded staps and wear both straps on your shoulders. Although you may think this is "dorky" it will save you from having back problems when you get older.

i prefer a backpack b/c it holds more and anyways, messenger bags will hurt ur neck/shoulder. BUT...messenger bags are in style these days, so do whatever's more comfortable. tote bags r also in fashion. my recomennded brands 4 backpacks is Jansport or LL Bean

i prefer back packs... they are comfy and have nice adjustable length and provides good support and you can make them not look fat and ugly even with lots of stuff...

I myself prefer Nike or Adidas or Deuter back packs... they're excellent stuff... and I like the nike ones with 'bubbles' in them...
adidas mixes looks and quality, whereas deuter is just, wow.. amzing quality and all
