A similar theory was postulated as part of a 60-Minutes episode last spring. The mother's body sends off something like antibodies in response to the heavy doses of male hormones produced by the male fetus. Sometimes she conquers the "alien" male and it becomes gay. That's a HUGE simplification of the theory. Some of the research pointing to this explanation comes from the fact that when the mothers of gay men have more than one son, it is statistically probably that the gay son will be born later in the birth order, indicating that perhaps whatever she is doing is finally working (or has worn out and is not working).

I think it's simple. There is nothing perfect about a human being. Why then would sexual orientation be perfect? Although I think that it's source is a combination of mental variation in people and environmental variations as well.
God didn't intend for anyone on earth to be sinful or even have imperfections. But we all do. We all have some kind of flaw. We all make mistakes daily. Officially (I know you don't want anything biblical, but this is a different perspective). This span of variation [not just with sexuality, it's within many things like sickness, death, etc.] is the result of Adam making a the wrong choice. He chose to be independent of God. Check out Romans 5:12.
But back to it. Basically, we are not going to be exactly the same in everything so why would sexuality be any different.

The "source" of homosexuality is still unkown. Different people have different theories, with very little at best evidence to back their claim. IMO, sexual preference is just a part of how someone is, just like eye color. It could be linked to a gene. It could be linked to fetal development. It could be linked to changes in society. (Email me for more specifics on that last one. I have some ideas on sexual orientation that I've been poondering the past couple of weeks.)
I don't think Time had a very credible source. That's one thing to always look at when you read an article. When the body detects something as foreign, it doesn't cut off supplies to that are. The white blood cells step in and attack it, destroying the cells. If that were to happen to a child, the white blood cells would destroy the child, not alter its development.

I saw that article and I think its an interesting theory - but if it were completely true there would be a lot more homosexuals than there are. We are pretty sure though that sexual orientation and gender identity are being affected in the womb. It was proven to be the case in women who took the drug DES in the 1950's and early 1960's. It caused many to have babies who turned out to be intersexed, transsexual or homosexual depending on when in the pregnacy they took the drug. Anything which alters the hormones can affect the outcome of the fetus.

Actually there is a great deal of scientific evidence that it is inborn. Beyond scientific evidence there is anecdotal evidence.
The fruit fly study is actually fairly conclusive. But the pheremonal and eye blink studies are also compelling. I've included links below for those that are interested. Beyond that, research increasingly suggests that at least for males, X28 is the crucial gene. I am saddened by this, because I believe that once it is proven, gay people will be wiped out -- and I think that is sad, because given the number of species in which homosexuality exists (see Dr. Bruce Bagemihl's book "Biological Exuberance" from St. Martin's Press) I think it serves a purpose.
In addition to scientific evidence is the anecdotal evidence. I never in my life had any sexual feeling for a female -- nor any romantic feelings. I have had romantic feelings for other males since 8. I figured out it was sexual at 11 and came out at 14. I never felt anything for girls, neither do other gay males I know. Some boys manage to suppress it for a time, but when it comes out they admit to having always had the feelings. Likewise for bisexuals, although bisexuals always have feelings for both, and therefore are capable of choice -- for real. Gays are no more capable of choice than straights

Reyn

I think it has some basis in fact. I was the only male child born but my older sister was such a tomboy that my mother may have sub-psychologically felt a son was like a second son and that would explain my being bisexual.
I have fought against being bisexual all my life and have been miserable my whole life. Now that I accept myself as g0y and bisexual I am so free and happy it is the most wonderful thing so yeah all you haters save it for someone who cares OK.
And for the uninformed most homosexual men have a higher level of testosterone not less LOL God you people need to get your facts straight.

My theory: something wonderful causes homosexuality. Natural diversity.
There is no reliable knowledge about this subject. There aren't even any reliable theories yet.
I find the whole idea that nature "reduces the flow of some protein" to damage an "alien being" repugnant. Nature doesn't work that way. Even children who aren't viable (stillborn) get carried to term. So I suspect that whoever's cooking up this little theory has some more lab work to do.

I think that homosexuality is build in us all. This is the reason:
The urge of reproduction is very very strong in all of us. Since humans are and have been social animals there has been a lot of competition who gets to mate with whom. Obviously some don't get that chance, but they still have that energy and urge. Homosexuality was a way to channel that energy when heterosexuality was not possible.
Another reason I might think of was simply the strengthening of social ties among between the same sex. Sexuality is way to feel pleasure and experiencing this together with the members of your tribe would strengthen these ties.
So, I think homosexuality is natural behaviour of any social animal. I could say that we all are bi-sexuals. The negativity and taboos related to homosexuality are a product of our culture. And these reactions have varied through time.

in some countries not being allowed to have free sexual relationship may couse gay.in such countries you can't recognize true gay and lesbians from those who make sexual relationship with the same sex becouse of pressure.
this all sucks.I know many of gay people whom aren't really gay.
having sex is one of the most primary needs of the human being.
you can never understand how hard it is if you can not even have love or sex with a woman even after 20 years!so this can be one reason.at the other hand in my opinion having sex with a male never gives that much plesure as having it with a female.those men whom are gay are week people, whom feel like they need to be protected with some one strong and since a female is not as strong as a male they head for a man's sheltering.
it can be one reason.
