you go to the doctor's office he/she does an exam and asks you alot of questions about when you had your last monthly. he will measure your tummy. he will also take a urine sample to make sure you are pregnant. after all is asked and done, he will give you a script for blood work (if he can't do it in his office). you want to call your insuance carrier to find out where it is approved to be done in your area. he will also give you a script for prenatal vitamins, that will give the baby and you the extra vitamins and iron you will need during this pregnancy, after your blood work comes back you will see him again, and he will measure your tummy and adjust your vitamins and iron (i had to take 3 extra iron pills every day with my 2nd preg.) if any thing else shows up in your blood work he will send you for further tests but if all is good then you just get another appointment with him. over and over unless something else happens. he may send you for an ultra sound which is simply a type of radar test that shows the baby and it's progress, it is no big deal they just put some slimey jelly on your belly and roll this little piece of equipment over your tummy. the piece of equipment is small and fits in the hand kind of like your mouse for the computer, it doesn't hurt you or the baby. having a baby is a wonderful thing to experience, i hope you good health and happiness.

Find an OB/GYN that you want to go to and call and make an appointment. They probably will not want to see you until you are 12 weeks along, but they can answer questions for you about what things are ok to take and also call in a prescription for prenatal vitamins for you. I would also go and get a good pregnancy book like What to Expect When you are Expecting because you are going to have lots of questions about everything and it is much easier to read about it, then to ask other people because everyone has a different opinion. Good Luck!

Go get prenatal vitamins. Most docs won't see you until you are at least 8 weeks. Watch what you eat, don't smoke, drink alcohol or do any drugs, even over the counter. Tylenol is OK. Make your appointment and wait.

Make a list of questions for potential caregivers. Set up appointments with docs and/or midwives and see which one seems to fit best for you. If you ask others to give you their caregivers number, make sure that they tell you WHY they like them. The reason that they like them might be the reason you would HATE them!

Start takin PNV's if you haven't already.

See a doctor as soon as you think you are pregnant. The sooner you start prenatal care the better for the baby and for yourself.
