New Scotland Yard, often referred to simply as Scotland Yard or The Yard, is the headquarters of the Metropolitan Police Service, responsible for policing Greater London (although not the City of London itself).

So yes, it's just the name for the London Police

Scotland Yard is unoffical name where the London Metropolitan Police are based, the name comes from the orginal home of the met police which was on Great Scotland Yard. The full name is New Scotland Yard and is a tower block on Broadway and Victoria Street.

Interesting side note the London Metropolitan Police though responsible for the policing of London, they do not police the actual city centre, an area of about 1 square mile which is policed by the City of London police
