My entire family takes generic loratadine (claratrin). We get it the cheapest at wal-mart, and there are no side effects. It works well, it is 24 hours. One small pill per day does the trick.
You should also clean the filter on your air conditioner. that might help a little, too.

I suffer terribly from allergies and have found that even the side effects of some OTC products are easier to deal with.
Benadryl: will help you fall asleep if you're sniffly and congested.
Its' probably the most effective.
Sudafed (pseudophedrine) works wonders for me on certain
days, it depends on my allergies. While it is OTC, will have to go to the pharmacy to get it b/c meth heads use it in their labs. It will dry you out, so drink lots of water wtih it, but it has never made me feel woozy or drowsy.
Alavert has done wonders for me and it has never made me feel woozy or drowsy.
Don't bother with Claritin, take my word for it. It's way over priced and not highly effective.
Talk to your doctor. I was prescribed Allegra and my life has improved.

I'm having big time allergy issues this year too. I read an article that said this is the worst allergy season in a decade or something. I use Claritin. It works for me.

Saline solution is good for clearing your nasal passage.

Saline solution is basically salt water, but you can also buy it over the counter. Put a few drops in each nostril for a few seconds and then blow out.
