It's by default-just because imperialism is unfashionable doesn't make it unnecessary.

We don't 'police' the world - we look out for our own interests. True, we do some humanitarian stuff, but it is mostly self-interest that motivates us. This is true for every other nation out there, so calling the US selfish is intellectually dishonest and childish.

The Middle East has been a US national interest for decades, especially in regards to oil. It has also been a European area of national interest, too, for the same reason. Without oil, our economies would grind to a quick halt. That is why there was significant European presence in Gulf War 1 - because instability would affect the flow of oil.

Secondly, the world is interdependent today, moreso than ever before. What happens in other countries has external effects, sometimes very significant external effects. So, our interests are global.

Third, we are the only nation left with the military capability to project power worldwide.

Last, because of our power, we feel a responsibility to help the lowly, succor the oppressed. Call it the 'Sheriff Will Kane' sense of duty. It was only 60-70 years ago when the world witnessed the consequences of not confronting outlaws, and it learned this lesson at a very high cost.

When a country becomes powerful what do they always want to do? Build an Empire!

Find one powerful civilisation in history that has not tried to expand its borders and promote its way of life. Is there one? No.

America is now in a difficult situation because imperialism is no longer acceptable. What do they do? Destroy the power of the UN, ignore International Law and start writing it themselves whilst becoming the world police themselves so they can invade with an excuse.

Now America faces a difficult future with the rise of Russia, China and India. They have to make as much hay as they can whilst the sun shines or there is no way they will be anything like a super power in the not too distant future.

Don't believe me? Read some history and you'll see the same story of human greed over and over and .................

Why do other nations want our help (money) than bash us? I guess it is because if you want the money, you have to take the terms of the loan. I am so tired of this fight and there will never be a good answer, other than stop trying to come here, we really don't mind if you keep your country and destroy your own people (although those poor civilian people get hurt only, the dictiators get everything they want, hey, maybe thats why we do it!). Just leave us alone and stop infiltering our nation with your ideas and stop terrorizing us and blowing us up and we will leave you alone. And again, make your own money and feed your own people and I am sure in this great nation of ours we can find a way to get around to making our own natural resourses. We really need stop buying from other countries.

There has never been a nation like us before. In the past A nation like the US would ask the rest of the world for tributes. Never has a nation given as we. Even unto ours enemies. With power is obligations. Humanity is our cause. We enjoy the fruits of freedom while our neighbors suffer. When Nations starve and we supply food, the nations that criticize us, do nothing. If we did nothing , it would be better for our citizens , but then the rest of the world would criticize us for not helping.

I don't believe America wants to be the world police, but we really don't get many choices. The U.S. has been pulled in to battles since WW II. If it were up to most Americans, I think we would just ask that all the debts that are owed to the United States be paid off (which there are many world wide) and to have the U.N council rectify the problems since they are in essence supposed to be the world police representing the nations across the globe.

I do not believe that that statement is correct.

America has important trade interests throu-out the world
So of course, they are interested about what is happening in the world today
I t is hard not to intervene ,when a friendly nation is being attacked, or when one faction, in that nation are happily murdering another faction
'
Americans to their great credit, are doing what is right to bring a real peace, in as many regions, of this troubled world as possible.

They do this at great and terrible cost to themselves.

Yet they doing what they can for peace !
And will be blessed for it .

Because the rest of the world are a bunch of lilly-livered poofballs who piss and moan about what needs to be done and then won't come out from under their beds. So America has to go do the dirty work that the UN + World WANTS it to do, by claiming America has responsibility as the only remaining superpower, so UN + World don't have to break a nail..then UN and world complain about America acting alone despite the world's refusal to act on ANYTHING.

I agree that America should pull itself out of most of the international affairs and let everyone else run around like a bunch of stooges..then America can sit back and complain about how everyone else does things.

Because when WWII started, the US tried to stay out of it and say it was a European problem. As a result of US pacifism, millions of people died whose deaths could have been prevented by an earlier US intervention. Afterwards, the US made a promise never to be late again, never to wait, but to jump on fascists and warmongers and threats to global security without hesitation. Sometimes we miss, sometimes we misjudge, but there's a reason we lead the charge: regret.

if any other country had the money and tech abilities, the world would be forcing them to police the rest of the world too.

first, if you answered this as an american and don't like our policies, vote or move. (have you lived in any other country, try it, and you will soon appreciate the US) second, if you are from any place else, tell your govt to refuse any monies or aid from the US and then you can talk.
i may not agree with all the american govt policies, but its still better than any place else

Because we unfortunately have at least a semi-facist group of people in Washington. Believe me when I say that I do not agree with their policies either. We are closer to a police state in this country right now then at any other point in American history.

They have brought corporation to the forefront of government. When these two merge its byproduct is facism. This country is ran by banks, another facist trademark.

But just know this. You will get a lot of hateful replies from brainwashed people. They haven't woke up yet. Forgive them they do not know what they are talking about.
