He looks like he is wearing a white mask, as though his whole face is about to peel off. The rest of him looks fine and he is behaving normally. Another cherry barb died recently but didnt have the same symptoms.

No other fish have been introduced into the tank recently but due to the heatwave it has been difficult to control the temperature and one day it got to 30 degrees (usually 26!). I havent quarantined him as his behaviour is ok and I'm wondering could it just be old age (he is over 2 years old)?

Definitely Isolate him, though just to be safe to give the tank a "Blue Cure"ask your aquarium shop the best product they have" so they don,t get any after infections. Give the barb a good dose, after water clears refill with your tanks water so he is in his natural bacteria growth keep him in isolation for a couple of weeks and if he doesn't pick up, put him in a small container of water and freeze him - its quicker than poisoning him in the sewers

ok you desire to pass there, we could........ first of all micro organism supplements Do not something, they seem to be a waste of money. learn instruct they don't artwork by using fact the micro organism can't stay to tell the story on the shelf in a bottle. Your fish shop guy looks to have you ever superb suited the place he needs you however. every person advertising you some thing is in no way the guy you desire to hearken to too. That guy or woman the two is time-honored with of it would not artwork and offered it to you to make a greenback, or he thinks it rather works, and as a result has no enter you may desire to hearken to. and you over upload micro organism supplements so which you will forgo your weekly finding out ? Are you kidding ? that's the worst advice by using fact the guy who instructed Custer "Ya, i think of we are able to win" Secondly in case you've got extra all those information on your unique question then i would not ought to assume could I. You stated which you had your water examined and it replaced into "waiting FOR FISH" this suggests which you probably did not have any fish interior the tank initially would not it. So for sure my in basic terms logical end could be which you extra all those fish at as quickly as. yet thank you for assuming that i replaced into in simple terms assuming and attempting to tear you for some reason. back, the Barbs maximum probable died by using fact of undesirable water Parameters, ie. Ammonia,Nitrite,or Nitrate tiers being to intense. Its nonetheless an overstocked tank and that's gonna reason a subject. in case you desire to do good for those fish do extra water ameliorations, do them two times a week as a replace of as quickly as a week. think of roughly taking back the gouramis by using fact 2 dwarfs is in simple terms too small for a fifteen gallon tank. good luck

It sounds like your fish has a fungal infection, a fungal infections looks like cotton wool growths, you can geta treatment for it from a good petshop which you just add to the tank. it is contagous and anyother fish in the tank can also catch it, Also i would check your water conditions and make sure they are good.

Sounds like he's got a fungus going on. You need to treat it with some type of fish medicine. Go to Petsmart and see if you can talk to someone on what to do.

either a fungus or bacteria impossible to know without seeing the fish. best bet is to either isolate him so other fish dont get infected or kill him. methylene blue may help.
