not your. We're for we are, they're for they are etc. I dont' mind people using text language when answering but it really makes my eyes sore when I see things like:- your going, or were going, or there going. Especially when it's (not its) from people who claim to be educated.

A girl after my own heart. I've just passed a shop advertising "First Class Accommadation". You can't educate pork!

It annoys me too. I loved learning English, and worked hard to get a good GCSE grade. Some people do have problems with literacy but I don't think the whole 'Txt Tlk' trend is helping. Kids seem to think they don't need to spell correctly anymore. Some will put it down to laziness because with computer spell checks, you don't need to try, as any mistakes will be corrected, but I don't agree with that one. I used computers a lot, and I rarely use a spell checker.

Nope. English grammar is very rarely taught in schools any more, so you don't get to learn the joys of "you're" being different from "your". Learning a language with cases, such as Latin, helps greatly with the command of the English language, as you know how to structure a sentence!

You can add me to the ever growing list of those who hate bad spelling and grammar. I have always been proud of having a good command of the English language.

ps My other pet hate is those who do not use capital letters at the begining of proper names, but write entirely in lowercase.

That's one of my pet peeves. I absolutely hate it.
There - a place
Their - ownership
They're - they are

your - ownership
you're - you are.

its - put in a place where the thing could be a male or female
it's - it is

It's so simple. It annoys me when people try to give me advice and act intelligent but yet they misuse they're/there/their and you're/your.

Hello Sunshine - me too. It REALLY annoys me when people just can't get it right, didn't they learn anything at school?

The other one that bugs me is "I could OF done that" instead of "I could HAVE done that"!

I think it's plain and simple laziness of younger people nowadays.

I'm very encouraged by the number of people who have agreed with your rant. I for one am also very keen on correct grammar, and complain at people who don't use it.
